RIM to cut 5,000 jobs, delay new Blackberrys

TORONTO (AP) -- Struggling BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. said Thursday it will delay the launch of new phones deemed critical to the company's survival and revealed its business is crumbling faster than thought.

The Canadian company posted results for its latest quarter that were worse than analysts had expected. It's cutting 5,000 jobs and unexpectedly delaying the launch of its new phone operating system, BlackBerry 10, until after the holiday shopping season.

After several delays, the first phone with BlackBerry 10 was expected later this year. It will be delayed even longer, to the first quarter of next year, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins said.

The delay comes as North Americans are abandoning BlackBerrys for iPhones and Android phones. Analysts have long said the new BlackBerrys will come out too late to reverse RIM's fortunes. RIM was banking its future on the new BlackBerry 10 system, which is meant to offer the multimedia, Internet browsing and apps experience that customers now demand.

Now it will come out months after a new iPhone is expected to be released. Current and previous iPhones have made the BlackBerry look ancient.

Heins had vowed to do everything he could to release BlackBerry 10 this year but he said Thursday that the timetable simply wasn't realistic. He said RIM's top priority remains a successful launch of the new BlackBerrys.

"I will not deliver a product to the market that is not ready to meet the needs of our customers," Heins said on a conference call with analysts. "There will be no compromise on this issue."

The jobs cuts are part of a previously announced initiative to cut $1 billion in annual costs this year. They represent about 30 percent of RIM's workforce of about 16,500.

"It is necessary to change the scale and refocus the company," Heins said. "I fully understand the impact a workforce reduction of this size has on our employees and the communities in which we operate. I assure you that we wouldn't move forward with a change of this size if we didn't think it was critical for our future."

RIM shares tumbled $1.27, or 14 percent, to $7.86 in extended trading, after the release of the results. If they hold that level into regular trading Friday, they will set a nine-year low.

Heins acknowledged that he delivered "a lot of tough news."

"This was a challenging quarter for the company on many fronts," he said. "And I am not satisfied with the financial performance we are reporting today."

He said the company will release fewer models than in the past. He also said RIM will launch a BlackBerry 10 model with a physical keyboard close to the launch of a touch-screen model. RIM earlier said it would come out with the touch-screen model first, but didn't say when it would make one with a physical keyboard, a feature that many people stay with BlackBerrys for.

RIM has hired a team of bankers to help it weigh its options as it loses market share and its business erodes. Heins said they continue to study those options, but he declined to elaborate and said the board would have to approve any changes.

RIM lost $518 million, or 99 cents a share, in its fiscal first quarter, which ended June 2. That compares with a profit of $695 million, or $1.33 per share, a year ago.

Excluding impairment charges, the latest loss was 37 cents per share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting a loss of 3 cents.

Revenue fell 43 percent to $2.8 billion, well below analyst expectations at $3.1 billion.

RIM said it shipped just 7.8 million BlackBerry smartphones in the quarter, down 41 percent from 13.2 million a year earlier.

Heins said the company is expecting the next several quarters to be "very challenging." He said RIM is in the midst of a platform transition and faces an increasingly competitive environment. Research firm IDC says BlackBerry's U.S. market share has plummeted from 41.1 percent in 2007 to 3.6 percent in first three months of 2012.

Colin Gillis, an analyst with BGC Financial, said the results and news of a BlackBerry 10 delay is far worse than the horrible news he had already expected. He said the worst quarters are still in front of RIM and management is not reducing expenses fast enough to compensate for the revenue decline. He expects this to be the last quarter that RIM will see subscriber growth and said he would not be surprised if RIM announces more layoffs by the end of the year.

"When a technology gets old, it's not a slow fade. It's a sharp cliff," Gillis said. "There is very little market for old technology."

Michael Walkley, an analyst with Canaccord, called the BlackBerry 10 delay dire and problematic in a rapidly changing technology sector.

"The biggest disappointment is the delay of the BlackBerry 10," he said. "It's extremely challenging for them to turn around the business when their new smartphone is launching that late."

Risk factors for breast cancer for women aged 40 to 49 years: a - JSurg

Risk factors for breast cancer for women aged 40 to 49 years: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Ann Intern Med. 2012 May 1;156(9):635-48

Authors: Nelson HD, Zakher B, Cantor A, Fu R, Griffin J, O?Meara ES, Buist DS, Kerlikowske K, van Ravesteyn NT, Trentham-Dietz A, Mandelblatt JS, Miglioretti DL

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Identifying risk factors for breast cancer specific to women in their 40s could inform screening decisions.

PURPOSE: To determine what factors increase risk for breast cancer in women aged 40 to 49 years and the magnitude of risk for each factor.

DATA SOURCES: MEDLINE (January 1996 to the second week of November 2011), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (fourth quarter of 2011), Scopus, reference lists of published studies, and the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium.

STUDY SELECTION: English-language studies and systematic reviews of risk factors for breast cancer in women aged 40 to 49 years. Additional inclusion criteria were applied for each risk factor.

DATA EXTRACTION: Data on participants, study design, analysis, follow-up, and outcomes were abstracted. Study quality was rated by using established criteria, and only studies rated as good or fair were included. Results were summarized by using meta-analysis when sufficient studies were available or from the best evidence based on study quality, size, and applicability when meta-analysis was not possible. Data from the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium were analyzed with proportional hazards models by using partly conditional Cox regression. Reference groups for comparisons were set at U.S. population means.

DATA SYNTHESIS: Sixty-six studies provided data for estimates. Extremely dense breasts on mammography or first-degree relatives with breast cancer were associated with at least a 2-fold increase in risk for breast cancer. Prior breast biopsy, second-degree relatives with breast cancer, or heterogeneously dense breasts were associated with a 1.5- to 2.0-fold increased risk; current use of oral contraceptives, nulliparity, and age 30 years or older at first birth were associated with a 1.0- to 1.5-fold increased risk.

LIMITATIONS: Studies varied by measures, reference groups, and adjustment for confounders, which could bias combined estimates. Effects of multiple risk factors were not considered.

CONCLUSION: Extremely dense breasts and first-degree relatives with breast cancer were each associated with at least a 2-fold increase in risk for breast cancer in women aged 40 to 49 years. Identification of these risk factors may be useful for personalized mammography screening.

Making a list of needed products at Baby Registry Finder | New ...

The Baby Registry Finder is a very intelligent shopping website which ensures that parents of babies can make a list of all the products they need and ask their relatives, friends and well wishers to gift the baby products from that list.

The Walmart Baby Registry is also active in this process and makes sure that friends and relatives can handpick from that list and send whatever is needed by the baby. This ensures that the baby does not get any unwanted products and gets only whatever is needed by the baby.

The Target Baby Registry service also makes sure that one product does not reach the baby twice. If a product has already been bought and gifted by someone, it?ll be automatically mentioned in the list so no one else can buy the same product and gift it. This is an amazing service which serves the needs of babies.

Why a NFL Franchise in London Would Spell Disaster

At least one National Football League owner is open to the idea of increasing the league's presence overseas to include a team in London full-time. What at first may seem like a novel idea is actually just a disaster waiting to happen.

Since 2007, one regular season game each season has pitted a pair of teams squaring off at Wembley Stadium in London, with this year's matchup in October set to face the St. Louis Rams and New England Patriots.

However, Patriots owner Robert Kraft doesn't necessarily think that one game a season is enough. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Kraft indicated that he feels the time is right for an NFL team in London, although he reiterated that it won't be his franchise.

"I personally think we should have a franchise in London and that is something I am going to push for," Kraft said. I think that would be right for the NFL and this fan base has proven they deserve it. For us to grow the game, we have to expand globally. Having seen the kind of support we have received here in London, it is the intention of the NFL owners to get two games here, starting next year.

"The only bad part of putting a franchise in London is that I can assure you it won't be the Patriots who are moving here."

The thing is, whether you like the "International Series" or not, there's a big difference between playing one game overseas and placing an NFL franchise there full time, and doing so would be fraught with potential problems.

The first, and likely biggest, is the simple fact that London is nearly 3,500 miles from New York City and almost 5,000 miles from Seattle. London is also five hours ahead of the former and seven (or eight, depending on Daylight Savings Time) ahead of the latter, which would make traveling to an away game in the UK problematic to say the least.

The NFL has tried to mitigate the impact of this journey for the annual contests now by giving each team participating in the London Game their bye week following their hop across The Pond. The long flight has still impacted the games in London though, as the quality of play in many of these contests has been choppy at best.

That wouldn't be an option if eight games a season were played in the UK, putting the teams forced to make the trip at a significant competitive disadvantage, not only during their week in London but also the week after as players recover from jet lag.

The same problem would only be magnified for the London team, as they would have to travel stateside several times every year, even if the league tried to schedule their road games in bunches.

The Monarchs (might as well use the old NFL Europe team's moniker for argument's sake) would never be able to get into any kind of rhythm, whether it's due to perpetual jet lag or being stuck on the road, away from their facilities, for weeks at a time.

Second, there's the small matter of which team would be placed there. Sure, there are a number of teams in the National Football League that have threatened relocation in recent years in an attempt to procure a new stadium, but do you really think any of those teams wants to not only follow through on that threat but do so by moving their club to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean?

Lastly, none of the teams in serious danger of relocation are exactly what one would call an "elite" franchise. Sure, attendance has been strong for the NFL games played in London to this point, due in large part to the novelty of the event.

Should the NFL Place a Team in London Full-Time?

Should the NFL Place a Team in London Full-Time?

  • Yes

  • No

That novelty will wear off pretty quickly once fans in the UK are treated to the Jacksonville Jaguars eight times a year (settle down Jags fans, it's just an example), and attendance would all but certainly plummet as a result.

We won't even get into the idea of playoff games in London, as odds are the team banished to the UK wouldn't sniff the postseason for some time. As to the Super Bowl being held there? An argument for another day.

And for the record, forget expansion. 32 teams is a nice round number that has allowed the league to group teams into eight tidy divisions of four teams each. It's perfect, so don't mess with it.

I will freely admit that I've never been a fan of playing regular season games overseas. In my opinion it's nothing more than a gimmicky money grab that puts a pair of teams in an unnecessary hole from a competitive standpoint, costing one a home game and throwing a monkey wrench into the routines of both.

Putting a team in London would only magnify that problem tenfold, but since there's money to be made it's all but certain it will happen, logic and reason be damned.

Manhattan apartment features staircase lined with 20,000 Lego bricks

Now we just want to see a hottub made from Lincoln Logs

Usually when you're looking for a new?home, you need to consider things like whether or not it has a built-in dishwasher or central air conditioning. But one apartment in Manhattan has a rather unique feature that helps it stand our from the rest ? and it has nothing to do with creature comforts. The main staircase in the home of Melissa Marks and Vicente Caride is adorned with a colorful railing constructed entirely of?Lego blocks.

Designed by one of New York's officially licensed Lego artists ? yes, thats a real, actual profession ? the railing extends from the main floor all the way to the second floor. It's been crafted using primarily white bricks, but features more colorful accents at both ends, including large open squares which give it a very abstract appearance.

You can, of course,?build your own Lego home accents, given enough time and patience. However, we'd advise against relying on plastic toy blocks for anything you plan on putting a good amount of weight on. In fact, we imagine it would take just one unfortunate trip to turn the Lego staircase above into a massive pile of crushed blocks and broken dreams.

94% Marley

Director Kevin MacDonald and co-producer Ziggy Marley bring forth the most definitive look back at the life of Bob Marley, in the new documentary "Marley". From the formation of "The Wailers" and the comings and goings of different members of the band (including Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff), to Marley's dealings in Rastafarian and how it bled into his Reggae music; and also from his controversial lifestyle punctuated by being a "womanizer" (eleven children from seven different women) to his humanitarian nature, this in-depth (two and a half hour) documentary will immensely satisfy fan and novice alike. I, like many other younger American non-Rasta's, had grown up knowing Bob Marley for his more commercially catchy hits and from his countless depictions on a multitude of shirts worn by numerous Bay Area potheads. But, being a novice, going into this film I wasn't particularly interested in seeing a two and a half hour movie about the life and times Bob Marley. A story I thought I knew, and had heard, countless times before. But that notion changed rather abruptly within the first few minutes of this movie. And by the end, due to the brilliant investigative journalistic nature of MacDonald which elevates "Marley" from an average movie to a MUST SEE documentary, audiences who see this film will walk out with an in-depth appreciation for the man who wrote some of the most poetic and revolutionary lyrics in music history. "Marley" is the no holds barred dissection of a particular subject (or subject matter) which fans of great documentaries will crave (and in fact, was nowhere to be found in the films of 2011). And for a documentary that was originally supposed to be directed by Martin Scorsese, after seeing what MacDonald has accomplished here, it would be hard to imagine "Marley" being more perfectly executed in anybody else's hands. What truly sets "Marley" apart from other bio-documentaries and A&E specials is how, in a very PBS way, MacDonald uses a seemingly endless amount of archival footage, as well as interviews with almost everybody (still alive) who had anything to do with Marley's upbringing and his life as a world famous musician, as the narration. It was quite apparent that MacDonald had full access to any and all information he wanted, and as far as I could see, he thankfully took complete advantage of this fact. As audiences, we hear from Marley's family and peers about how as a young boy he was an outcast because of his mixed-race. We also hear from notable Jamaican artists and record executives, who saw his maturation into a musician that worked to bridge the gaps, not only in Jamaica (during times of war) but nationwide as well. In this way, MacDonald enables audiences to intimately know Bob Marley on every level (get your mind out of the gutter). But all the pure information aside, what MacDonald does very well here is not creating a documentary which totally sanctifies Bob Marley, much as many movies (tributes) do when celebrities with checkered pasts die. MacDonald captures recollections of Marley from both those who loved the man and those who thought him to be nothing more than a womanizing zealot, who was sadly not as politically motivated as he should have been. Final Thought: Overall "Marley" is a brilliant example of an archetype onto how all biographical documentaries should be made. Grade "A" filmmaking, in conjunction with a larger than life subject (subject matter) is what elevates "Marley" into one of the most entertaining two and a half hour documentaries I have ever seen. If you are at all a Bob Marley fan (casual or otherwise) and if you are able to, see "Marley", any way you can, before Hollywood makes a more commercialized (legacy ruining) feature film version of his life in a few years; starring Mekhi Phifer no doubt. Car refinancing is a sensible choice for those who own a car but are having trouble paying the monthly payments. In light of the financial crisis that has rocked the global economy many people are struggling to meet their monthly repayments and other high interest charges. Auto refinancing can help those in financial trouble, especially when borrowers are anxious about refinancing their mortgage. But what does auto refinancing mean? Well, instead of paying high interest rates on loans, borrowers can opt for a lower one by setting up a new loan against the value of their vehicle. It is important to note that with this solution, cars lose value quickly, so it could happen that a borrower pays more interest on the loan in the long run.

Once someone is approved by an auto refinancing company, the borrower

Quantum bar magnets in a transparent salt

Friday, June 15, 2012

Scientists have managed to switch on and off the magnetism of a new material using quantum mechanics, making the material a test bed for future quantum devices.

The international team of researchers led from the Laboratory for Quantum Magnetism (LQM) in Switzerland and the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN), found that the material, a transparent salt, did not suffer from the usual complications of other real magnets, and exploited the fact that its quantum spins ? which are like tiny atomic magnets - interact according to the rules of large bar magnets. The study is published in Science.

Anybody who has played with toy bar magnets at school will remember that opposite poles attract, lining up parallel to each other when they are placed end to end, and anti-parallel when placed adjacent to each other. As conventional bar magnets are simply too large to reveal any quantum mechanical nature, and most materials are too complex for the spins to interact like true bar magnets, the transparent salt is the perfect material to see what's going on at the quantum level for a dense collection of tiny bar magnets.

The team were able to image all the spins in the special salt, finding that the spins are parallel within pairs of layers, while for adjacent layer pairs, they are antiparallel, as large bar magnets placed adjacent to each other would be. The spin arrangement is called "antiferromagnetic". In contrast, for ferromagnets such as iron, all spins are parallel.

By warming the material to only 0.4 degrees Celsius above the absolute "zero" of temperature where all classical (non-quantum) motion ceases, the team found that the spins lose their order and point in random directions, as iron does when it loses its ferromagnetism when heated to 870 Celsius, much higher than room temperature because of the strong and complex interactions between electron spins in this very common solid.

The team also found that they could achieve the same loss of order by turning on quantum mechanics with an electromagnet containing the salt. Thus, physicists now have a new toy, a collection of tiny bar magnets, which naturally assume an antiferromagnetic configuration and for which they can dial in quantum mechanics at will.

"Understanding and manipulating magnetic properties of more traditional materials such as iron have of course long been key to many familiar technologies, from electric motors to hard drives in digital computers," said Professor Gabriel Aeppli, UCL Director of the LCN.

"While this may seem esoteric, there are deep connections between what has been achieved here and new types of computers, which also rely on the ability to tune quantum mechanics to solve hard problems, like pattern recognition in images."

Home Improvement - Safety in Electrical and Mechanical Tasks

Safety is usually not a concern with most people doing home-improvement until they are injured or fall. Most do not understand how hazardous it can be, even lethal, when working on their homes inside or out. Typically, slipping accidents top the list of the most common incidents that lead to injuries at home. Falling from the top of your house when trying to do a roof repair is also a very common injury.

If you do repairs, and if you use a ladder, you might find yourself falling if it is not properly secure. Very typically people either do not deploy the ladder correctly, or they simply lean too far from the center of gravity. Follow these easy tips and you will be safer than ever when getting things done at home.

Part of home improvement success is walking away from the job when it is finished. First of all, when you go out to get the tools that you need, stick to a budget. Make sure to get quality merchandise for your repairs instead of what is cheapest.

Repairs should only be done with pieces that will last many years or else you may be doing repairs again. Coupled with good quality tools is the principle of using them as they are supposed to be used. That also means never substituting the improper tool for a job. It really depends on what you are doing and how specific the tool must be for the job.

Rags that are in miscellaneous places can present certain hazards that need to be avoided.

The concept of fire loading is a little known but very important safety consideration. The more flammable material you have in one spot, the greater the fire load. Dont forget to always store any rags or material with flammable solvents for your protection. Putting this material in something that has no airflow is the best solution.

Many accidents that involve electricity can be understood because they involve people who dont know any better. While its not much help after the fact, there are many things that are simply common sense. Make sure any electrical device is unplugged if you intend to do anything to it other than using it for its main function. Always make sure the power cord isnt plugged in if you are going to fiddle with it in any way. If you are going to replace a piece, like a saw or a drill bit, you need to make sure the unit isnt plugged in. While we feel the reasons behind this should be obvious, many people still ignore this advice and a lot of accidents take place. So, before you do anything with power tools, you need to slow down and think. While safety may not be the first thing you think about when it comes to making improvements to your home, it really should be. However safety really should be the one of the first things to think about before starting to actually do any work. Keep in mind that it only takes a split second for something to happen.

20 Underrated Car and Bike Events for Summer 2012

Location: Lenox, Mass.
When: June 15 to 17

Cars by British automakers like Bentley, Rolls, Jaguar, and Aston Martin have personalities unlike those from any other country. Sporting and distinguished, these were the dream cars for many kids in the generations that grew up in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. The Berkshire British Motorcar Festival (last year known as the Tanglewood British Motorcar Festival) attracted 350 cars from around the country in 2011. This year, the weekend will be filled with car shows, drives, and even a tailgate picnic competition featuring "all things British."

Interview: Kara Hayward on Moonrise Kingdom

How many kids get to have their first-ever kiss directed on screen by Wes Anderson? As one half of the star-crossed lovers in Moonrise Kingdom, 12-year-old Kara Hayward got to share in that very experience -- along with, you know, making her screen debut in a Wes Anderson film. Not that we're envious. At all. In the director's latest whimsical journey, Hayward plays Suzy, the moody older sister -- a pamphlet on the family fridge reads "Coping with the Troubled Child" -- in a mildly dysfunctional clan parented by Bill Murray and Frances McDormand. Obsessed with girl's own adventure novels, Suzy soon embarks on one of her own when she falls for orphan Sam (Jared Gilman) and the two elope to an orchestra of adult chaos.

A couple of weeks back we talked with Gilman about Moonrise Kingdom, and this week it's Ms. Hayward's turn. Here, we had the chance to chat with the young actress about how she got the role, what it was like working with Anderson, and her plans for the future. And that kiss, of course.

This is your very first film, and it's a great one -- so congratulations are in order. Tell me, how did you get involved with a Wes Anderson movie?

Kara Hayward: Thank you! I heard about the open call from my dance teacher, who mentioned it. So I decided it might be something I might want to take a shot at for fun. And so after the open call I got a call asking me if I wanted to meet Wes Anderson -- so after I met him I got another call saying you had the job.

Were you a fan beforehand?

Yes, I was. I had seen Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Darjeeling Limited before I even knew about this.

So this was pretty exciting.

Yes.

What was your favorite out of those three?

I might have to say Darjeeling Limited. I loved that.

Had Jared been cast when you went in for your interview?

I believe he had already been chosen, yes.

When did you two first meet?

It was the month prior to filming. What they would do is that they had us come down to Rhode Island every Monday for rehearsals; so that's when I first met him.

What did you first think of him? Be honest.

[Laughs] He was nice! He was very nice. He seemed very talented, and I was just excited to work with him.

What was it like filming with Wes? For instance, is it hard to hit your marks when his camera's so meticulously plotted out?

I don't think it's quite hard to hit your marks. I think that he is so talented that he really makes it very easy to do anything. He's brilliant and so, so kind. He's amazing.

Did Wes show you any other films to give you an idea of what he was going for in this?

I did watch a film called Melody once. That was a lovely film.

I love the end of that film -- it's kind of anarchy, with the kids running riot among the teachers and blowing up a car.

[Laughs] Yes. That was a lot of fun. I love the ending. It was very sweet. It was a touching story.

They get married in that one, too. Unofficially.

Yes. [Laughs] We also saw a film called Blackjack, an English film. It did inspire me personally, on just how to bring my character Suzy to life, really -- just how to get into that, how to really improve on the way I was going to do it. That made me a lot better by the time I was ready.

How did you and Jared get on as the movie filmed? There must have been a lot of implicit trust to act out that story with each other.

He's a very nice guy. We became good friends. We could really trust each other by the end of the film.

Was it shot in sequence?

It was not. That was something that actually kind of surprised me, 'cause I didn't know much about the filming process. So that was one of those things that I found very interesting.

Because you had to access different parts of Suzy's character at different emotional moments. How much are you like her in real life?

In some little details. She likes animals and reading, but otherwise, we're quite different.

You're don't seem as troubled.

[Laughs] Yes. It's very interesting to portray someone so different from who you are.

She has some similar traits to Margot Tenenbaum. Did you feel that? Did you go back to any of Wes's films to study up on the characters?

Honestly, I watched Wes's films because I like Wes's films. [Laughs] Really I just played the scene the way I would play it and then Wes would make his little tweaks to the scenes. That's pretty much how I acted scenes. She does have some similarities to Margot Tenenbaum. They do have their own secrets. They've got the eye makeup. [Laughs]

It almost feels like all these characters exist in the same universe.

Yes. He does create quite a vibrant world for them to live in.

How much of Suzy is on the page, when you read the screenplay? Does the character emerge more on set?

I think Suzy is a very complex person. They did describe a bit of her in the script, but really it's when you begin to act as her that you can start to see what she's thinking inside her head, and just her entire world.

Were all her books real or were they made up?

[Laughs] No, the books were not real, they were made up. They're beautiful. The covers were all designed by different artists and they're very talented; very amazing the way they did that. But no, those were fake books. I wanted to read them.

I hear that your screen kiss was saved until right at the end of filming.

Yes, it was.

And it was your first kiss, too.

[Laughs] Yes. It was.

Were you nervous? I mean, granted a lot of people would love to have their first kiss in a Wes Anderson movie.

[Laughs] It was... I mean, it was all very -- it was saved to the end, I believe, for purposes of we trusted each other and you know, we were very comfortable with the crew and the camera and everything. And we were acting. It was just another scene. It was very protected.

First kiss, no big deal.

Yeah. [Laughs] We didn't care. Just another scene.

Now, your on screen dad is played by Bill Murray.

[Laughs] Yes.

It's safe to assume that he seems like a pretty cool guy.

Bill is the best. He's great. He's absolutely fantastic. On and off screen he's hysterically funny and everyone loves him. He's absolutely a ray of sunshine.

What was your favorite moment working with him? Everyone loves a good Bill Murray story.

Everyone does love a good Bill Murray story. There was the one time we were doing a photo shoot and they put a giant tuba on his head -- and he began to play. He was actually very good.

[Laughs] Bill Murray, accomplished tubist. I'm not surprised at all.

Yeah. [Laughs] He can do anything. He seems very musical. He had a guitar, and he could play that. He was very good. He can do everything I think.

Do you have a favorite scene in the film?

I think the one scene that I really enjoyed filming was this one between myself and Fran McDormand, where it was this very touching mother-daughter scene that showed the two characters at their most vulnerable points.
