Patricia is new to the Nanaimo art world, having recently moved from Alberta. She is a member of the Nanaimo Arts Council and Federation of Canadian Artists. Her work can be viewed on her website at www.patriciamansell.ca

"On moving to Canada I was immediately drawn to the work of Robert Bateman. His passion for animal conservation inspired me to explore the world of wiildlife and to use my painting to tell their stories." says the artist.

Learning and developing her style has taken her across North America to find new subjects to paint. She brings depth and detail to her acrylic paintings, and enjoys the process of mixing from a very limited palette of four main colours.

She has a special interest in painting endangered wildlife. Often something unique about the animal will inspire a painting. She develops her paintings from research and photographing animals in the wild and enjoys bringing out each animal's character.

Attention to detail put her in the top six finalists of the Artist?s Magazine's 2010 competition for Animal/Wildlife. Patricia was Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Print Artist for Alberta in 2011 and is a Signature Member of Artists for Conservation. She was thrilled to have her work included in the Artists for Conservation Exhibition at Grouse Mountain. Vancouver, Nov 2011 to Feb 2012, especially as her inspiration, Robert Bateman, was the premier artist of the Exhibition.

Patricia says "One of the strengths of wildlife art is its ability to tell stories. In my paintings I try to bring out the individuality of each animal. I portray many endangered animals, hoping that bringing them to life in my art will raise awareness of how close we are to losing them."

Arrest Made In Arrow Attack On Two Cats In Mid-Missouri ...

VERSAILLES, MO. (KTVI) ? The Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force and the Morgan County Sheriff?s Office have arrested a suspect in the shooting of two adult cats with arrows, Versailles, MO.

The suspect is a Versailles area resident. Animal abuse charges are expected to be filed, on the charges of felony animal abuse, which carries a jail sentence of up to four years and/or a fine of up to $5,000 for each count.

The cats, both two-year-old males named Patches and Licorice, were shot in the neck with the arrows. They?re being treated for pain and infection at the office of a local veterinarian and will be transferred to the Humane Society of Missouri Headquarters where they have continued to receive care.

Patches, who had the larger wound, is still in danger of losing a leg as a result of the injuries he sustained. Licorice has nerve damage along the path of the arrow which may or may not resolve as he recovers. The hope is that both cats will eventually be rehabilitated and adopted.

Bailed-out Portugal is adding more austerity to family budgets as it struggles to cut its debt amid a recession.

Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho announced on Friday an increase in workers? social security contributions to 18 per cent of their monthly salary from 11 per cent.

But he also said he is cutting companies? welfare contributions to 18 per cent from 23.75 per cent to encourage hiring.

The government predicts an economic contraction of 3.3 per cent this year. Treasury figures indicate tax receipts will be 2 billion euro ($A2.44 billion) lower than forecast, while a record jobless rate of 15.7 per cent is draining state funds.

Portugal received a 78 billion euro rescue last year. It is aiming for a budget deficit of 4.5 per cent this year, but many analysts expect it will be more than 5 per cent.

Motorola RAZR M official: 4.3-inch qHD display, 1.5GHz dual-core, hitting Verizon for $99 (update: currently $149)

Motorola RAZR M 4G LTE official 43inch qHD display, 15GHz dualcore, hitting Verizon for $99

Gosh, it feels like we're written this post already, huh? That's because we have. That handset you see up there is the Motorola RAZR M 4G LTE, which we've already seen in leaked photos. Well, Motorola just officially announced the phone and -- surprise, surprise -- there are no surprises. As we reported last week, the device has a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED Advanced display coated in Gorilla Glass. (The rear side is fashioned out of the same Kevlar you'll find on the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx.) As you can see, the phone has nearly edge-to-edge glass with narrow bezels, which brings us to one of the phone's key selling points: it offers a good deal of screen real estate for a phone with such petite dimensions.

Under the hood it packs a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The handset also boasts an 8-megapixel rear camera capable of recording 1080p video, a 0.3-megapixel front-facing shooter, GSM / UMTS / HSPA+ global roaming and 8GB of internal storage, along with a microSD slot. Additionally, the phone has an NFC radio and will ship with Android 4.0. And while the other two Moto phones announced today are coming this holiday season, this guy is landing on Verizon Wireless next week for $99, though it's up for pre-order today.

Update: Despite Verizon's own insistence, the Droid RAZR M is currently listed on the carrier's online store for $149 with a two-year contract, where it states that pre-orders will ship on September 12th. Perhaps Big Red got a touch greedy at the eleventh hour? [Thanks, Uto]

Rahm Emanuel: Newt Gingrich Comments on Bill Clinton DNC Speech 'Ridiculous'

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said it was "ridiculous" for New Gingrich to say that having former President Clinton speak tonight at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., was an "enormous risk" that would remind voters of how "pathetically bad Obama has been."

"That is ridiculous," Emanuel said today on "Good Morning America" of the former House speaker's comments.

"A former president who is very popular who can explain about the policies and the parallel tracks the two presidents have had in the sense of investing in education, investing in research and development, alternative energy and green energy and a responsible way of balancing the budget. I think he can do nothing but help and the notion that Newt is going to give our party strategic advice, no thank you."

Emanuel - a veteran of the both the Clinton and Obama administrations who is known for his sharp tongue - also took at shot at the GOP presidential ticket.

"Let me say this, my only advice to them, not that they would take it is I would not have Paul Ryan's fact-checker looking over Mitt Romney's tax returns," Emanuel said, referencing Romney's unwillingness to release more than two years of his tax returns and certain aspects of Ryan's speech at the Republican National Convention last week that some found misleading.

I also asked the Chicago mayor about a new ABC News-Washington Post poll that found that 47 percent of registered voters see Obama favorably overall, down 7 percentage points from his recent peak in April, while 49 percent rate him unfavorably. Emanuel did not express worry, but did say that the president needed to lay out his vision for a second term in the White House.

"There's no doubt that the president needs to talk about his vision for a second term and what it would mean for America. That's a requirement. I wouldn't call it a State of Union but I would call it about a clear choice in the direction he wants to take the country. He owes the country because if he gets elected, that kind of clarity," he said. "Clear policy choices, clear implications for the American people, different directions and this is a choice and I think that's what it's going to take and to finish that conversation the president will lay out his vision, not just for the next four years but the consequence for America going forward into the future."

Emanuel, citing his Jewish heritage, also called Republican attacks on Democrats' removing language from their party platform calling Jerusalem the capital of Israel a "red herring."

"As a person who has been to Jerusalem 20-plus times in his life, whose son just a couple of years ago had his bar mitzvah at the wall, this is a red herring, if I've ever seen one," he said.

Cheap Term Life Insurance | Small Business Assistance

September 4th, 2012 by admin Leave a reply ?

Cheap Term Life Insurance ImageShould you buy cheap term life insurance? It?s an often-asked question to which there is a cheap and simple answer. If you have a mortgage or you have a partner, family or dependants that could suffer financial hardship as a result of your death then cheap term life insurance is a must!

Cheap term life insurance, otherwise known simply as life insurance or term life is a cheap life insurance policy that pays out a lump sum upon your death. The premiums are very cheap and term life insurance policies are very easy to obtain. There are two basic types of term life insurance available from insurers ? cheap decreasing term life insurance and cheap level term life insurance.

Cheap decreasing term life insurance

Cheap decreasing term life insurance is very cheap. For only a few pounds each month a cheap decreasing term life insurance policy will pay the balance of your mortgage should you die before it reaches full term. This type of term policy is called decreasing term life insurance because the sum insured decreases in line with your outstanding mortgage balance. The cheap premium remains the same for the life of the policy, making it an exceptionally cheap way to secure life insurance. A cheap decreasing term life insurance policy ONLY pays out a lump sum to clear your mortgage. This type of cheap term life insurance does not make any other provision for the loved ones you leave behind.

Cheap level term life insurance

Level term life insurance policies are not as cheap as decreasing term life insurance, although these types of term policies overall are still cheap, having only slightly higher premiums attached to them. The reason for the premium not being as cheap is that level term policies pay off your mortgage AND leave a lump sum to your partner, family and/or dependants. The sum insured through a cheap level term life insurance policy remains the same through the life of the policy, as does the cheap premium.

A cheap level term life insurance is recommended to run in tandem with your mortgage. However, a cheap level term life insurance policy can run differently from the term of your mortgage. For instance, you could take out a 10-year level term life insurance policy that is separate from any other cheap premium life policy covering your mortgage. The premiums on the 10-year insurance policy will not be as cheap because the term is short, but it will provide you with additional life insurance cover in the unfortunate event of your death.

Obama?s Enthusiasm Deficit Could Soon Haunt Him

Just as Mitt Romney?s challenge last week at the Republican National Convention was to connect on a personal level with voters and make them comfortable with the idea of him sitting in the Oval Office, President Obama?s challenge this week at the Democratic National Convention is to reignite the flame?the passion among young and Latino voters that burned four years ago but is now just a smoldering ember.

Three demographic groups turbocharged Obama?s 7-percentage-point victory over John McCain in 2008: young voters ages 18-29, Latinos, and African-Americans. Their influx changed the composition of the electorate that year, making it look quite different from the makeup of voters in 2000 and 2004. Whether the 2012 electorate looks more like 2008?or 2004, or 2000?is a very big deal for both Obama and Romney.

Among the 9,659 registered voters interviewed by the Gallup Organization?s tracking polls Aug. 6-26, Romney and Obama were tied overall at 46 percent. But Obama beat Romney by 24 points, 58 percent to 34 percent, among voters ages 18-29 and by a whopping 32 points, 61 percent to 29 percent, among Latinos. In each case, the percentage who say they will definitely vote is significantly lower than it is among other demographic groups who view Obama less charitably.

Voters ages 65 and older favor Romney by a 15-point margin, 54 percent to 39 percent, and 86 percent of those in that oldest cohort say they definitely plan to vote, compared with just 61 percent of those ages 18-29. Romney has a statistically insignificant 1-point edge (46 percent to 45 percent) among those 30 to 49 years of age, but 80 percent of them say they will definitely vote. Among the 50-to-64 age group, Romney leads by 3 points, 48 percent to 45 percent, with 86 percent of that cohort saying they will definitely vote.

Among Latinos, just 66 percent say they definitely plan to vote, far below the 82 percent level among non-Hispanic whites, who favor Romney by 17 points, 55 percent to 38 percent.

Of those three critical groups from 2008, only African-Americans look reliably likely to turn in numbers in the same ballpark as four years ago. The Gallup polling shows Obama beating Romney by 90 percent to 4 percent, with 80 percent of African-Americans interviewed saying they definitely plan to vote, almost the same level as the 82 percent among whites.

In short, Obama has to fear that his good margins among young and Latino voters will be offset by their low volumes and that those groups simply won?t matter as much as they did four years ago.

The influx of new voters in 2008 was the subject of a national survey conducted in the spring by Louisiana State University?s Reilly Center for Media and Public Affairs, which produced a report last month titled ?What Happened to Hope and Change?? The survey was conducted from April 20 to June 16 and compared 511 first-time 2008 voters with 498 other voters who had voted in previous elections. The report, by the Reilly Center?s Kirby Goidel, Michael Climek, and Maxwell Means, found that, as one might expect, first-time voters remained more supportive of Obama than the overall electorate, in large part because ?they are younger, more likely to identify as racial minorities, and more Democratic in their partisan affiliation.?

But the study also found ?consistent evidence that President Obama?s 2008 first-time voters are less supportive than other Obama voters, reflecting a decline in enthusiasm among a key voting bloc in the
2012 elections.?

The importance of these groups for Obama?s chances can?t be overstated. Among so many other demographic groups, the fight is close. But among young voters, Latinos, and Hispanics, Obama?s margins are huge. They can yield a higher return on investment for Obama than the more closely fought groups. But first they have to show up.

Real Estate: Real Estate Rental Buying Tips To Get The Most For ...

Okay, you have just begun the procedure of looking to buy your home or home, but you are a bit overwhelmed and puzzled by the whole property lease procedure. Well do not panic, as there is plenty of reliable details out there to help you overcome your concerns and answer your questions. To help you start getting yourself knowledgeable, I have listed a few basic guidelines below.

Rental property asset tips:

You must entice excellent renters. Promotion your lease qualities in such a manner to entice the best renter possible should be your primary goal. Focus on how your competitors with low opening prices industry their lease qualities. Resembling these landlord's marketing tactics will serve you well in gaining the better renters.

You must comprehend how the programs of the exact property asset operates. When considering purchasing a multi-family device, you must pay interest to how many gas, electric and water measures are connected to the exact property asset. If there is only one meter servicing the whole building, then you will have to include application costs into the lease price for each device. Calling the local zoning board may also be a wise decision, as they can help you figure out your limitations of creating any significant changes to the application setup at the exact property asset. Price of creating any changes to the application services of any multi-unit property asset could be significant.

I have found that qualities that are situated near a college university are great investment opportunities. Vacancy prices are usually very low and most students will pay their lease for the whole term and some will even pre-pay for 12 months. Create sure you go to the college's housing department and introduce yourself to the folks on price. They usually have a excellent list of prospective renters looking to find a place to live just off university.

You must carefully look at the community surrounding the exact property asset. Are the left cars junky looking? Do the qualities in the place have a lot of deferred maintenance requiring a lot of repairs? Does the community look trashy and run down? All these aspects will figure out both the type of renter you will entice and how much you can expect to cost for lease on these qualities. It is best to have the exact property asset surrounded by excellent services such as malls and parks. In the larger cities, the exact property asset should be near the bus. Potential renters like to have as many things as possible near to where they are living. A nice walk to the local shop is much more convenient than a lengthy drive down country streets just to pick up the newspaper.

Do your due diligence on the exact property asset before you buy. Ask the owner for the financial records of the exact property asset for the past two years. This will allow you to confirm what the seller has represented to you from a money perspective. If you are going to finance the exact property asset, the banks are going to want to confirm the earnings on each device before they will indication off on the note that will allow you to buy the exact property asset.

Gathering details on prospective qualities before purchasing them is essential. You will need to consider certain aspects when you are considering each property asset. The first key feature is durability. How much will it cost to keep the exact property asset in excellent livable condition? Secondly, where is the exact property asset located? Even for lease qualities, place is a critical choice. It is essential to make sure that the property's place is by commonly used businesses in order for your renters to be able to go wherever they need to. The next one is the places average earnings. Income levels will figure out how you will industry your rentals in either a high-rent or a low-rent place. Location will be a significant component in a low-rent place while place in a high-rent place is not as much of a concern.

Becoming more knowledgeable about the procedure will go a lengthy way to finishing a effective property lease transaction. Create sure you comprehend all the essential details of the deal before you indication anything. Be mindful of these useful guidelines to help you become a confident effective landlord avoiding the overwhelming puzzled feelings that many others are experiencing!

Tokyo court: Samsung didn't infringe Apple patent

TOKYO (AP) - A Tokyo court on Friday dismissed Apple Inc.'s claim that Samsung had infringed on its patent - the latest ruling in the global legal battle between the two technology titans over smartphones.

The Japanese court case addressed only the synchronizing technology that allows media players to share data with personal computers and was not comparable in scope to the much larger victory that Apple won in the U.S. last week.

Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea, the world's largest maker of phones, welcomed the Tokyo District Court ruling that its technology that allows media players and personal computers to share music files and other content did not infringe on Apple patents as confirming "our long-held position."

"We will continue to offer highly innovative products to consumers, and continue our contributions toward the mobile industry's development," the company said in a statement.

The Apple lawyer present at the courthouse declined comment, and the company said later it had no comment, including whether it intended to appeal. In the past, Apple has accused Samsung of copying Apple products.

In a session lasting just a few minutes, Judge Tamotsu Shoji said he did not think Samsung products fell into the realm of Apple technology and dismissed the lawsuit, filed by Apple in August last year.

Apple, the Cupertino, California-based maker of the hit iPhone and iPad, is embroiled in similar legal tussles around the world over whether Samsung smartphones, which rely on Google Inc.'s Android technology, illegally used Apple designs, ideas or technology.

In one such case, a jury in California ruled last week that Samsung products illegally used such Apple creations as the "bounce-back" feature when a user scrolls to an end image, and the ability to zoom text with a tap of a finger.

The jury awarded Apple $1 billion in damages, and a judge is now evaluating Apple's request to have eight Samsung products pulled from shelves and banned from the U.S. market, including popular Galaxy model smartphones. Samsung's latest hit, Galaxy S3, was not part of the U.S. ruling.

Friday's ruling was the first held in Japan in the Samsung-Apple global court battle, but other technology is being contested by the two companies in separate legal cases in Japan.

Seo Won-seok, an analyst at Seoul-based Korea Investment & Securities, said the Tokyo verdict showed that the lawsuits around the world are largely isolated and may not be affected by Apple's major victory in California.

"The favorable ruling for Samsung convinces me that lawsuits in other countries may play out differently from the one in the U.S.," he said.

Apple products are extremely popular among Japanese consumers, but major Japanese carriers such as NTT DoCoMo sell Samsung smartphones as well. Japanese electronics maker Sony Corp. also makes smartphones and tablet devices similar to Samsung's, using Android technology.

Samsung has sold more than 50 million Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 smartphones around the world. The legal battle also involves Samsung's Tab device, which Apple claims infringes on patents related to the iPad tablet.

Product Review: Beauty Cycle Light Up Lip Gloss (+ Giveaway) | the ...

I?m going to make a grand sweeping statement here and say that I feel like there are two categories of women: those who love lipstick and those who love lip gloss. Of course most women would probably wear both from time to time but I feel like we all have a favourite. As for me, I tend to drift between the two camps depending on my mood but at the end of the day my heart lies with lip gloss. I?m always excited to discover new kinds of lip gloss because I feel like every brand has something different to offer. Enter beautycycle.

Pictured above from top to bottom are the shades ?champagne?, ?passion?, and ?glitz?. There are three colours in the range, but within these three shades is something to suit any skin tone. Clearly the best suited for my fellow pale-faced girls is glitz, which is one of those beautiful ?your lips but better? shades of pink. The glosses are in the mid range for pigmentation and they have a hint of shimmer to them. They have a faint peppermint scent, and they make my lips tingle after application. My favourite thing about these glosses is that they don?t feel tacky on the lips, so when I wear them in windy weather my hair doesn?t stick to my lips and drag coloured residue across my face when I try to remove it. This is otherwise known as the lip gloss jackpot. The beauty cycle light up lip glosses come with a built in light and mirror that make it easy to apply the product if you?re stuck in a situation with terrible lighting (ie: the bathroom at my workplace). Wake Up Nashville Announces Event, Opens Songwriting Contest ...

The second annual Wake Up Nashville event will take place at 7 pm, Sept. 21 at Marathon Music Works. Headlined by Jimmy Wayne, the fundraising event benefits Wake Up Narcolepsy, a national non-profit dedicated to building awareness of narcolepsy and raising funds to find a cure for this debilitating, life-long condition.

Additionally, until Sept. 12, unsigned artists will have the opportunity to submit their original songs to Wake Up Nashville?s songwriting contest for a $25 donation. Performers and publishers at Nashville?s Savannah Music Group will review the submitted song and select a winner. The winning artist will have the opportunity to perform his or her original work alongside Jimmy Wayne. The top 10 submissions will be recorded on a CD created for the event.

?Music Row can be a challenging environment for aspiring artists to get a fair hearing,? said Bob Saporiti, General Manager of Savannah Music Group. ?Wake Up Nashville offers these artists a one-of-a-kind ?audition,? and at the same time raises much needed awareness and funds for a very worthy cause. And the chance to perform their song alongside successful songwriters and artists, as well as being exposed to the other industry elite in attendance ? well, this is something really special!?

To enter the songwriting contest, or purchase a ticket for the event, visit: WakeUpNarcolepsy.org.
