Reports: Suicide bombing at U.S. Embassy, 2 dead

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) ? A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at the entrance of the U.S. Embassy in the Turkish capital on Friday, killing himself and one other person, officials said.

U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardione told reporters that a guard at the gate was killed in the 1:15 p.m. blast, and a Turkish citizen was wounded.

The bomb appeared to have exploded inside the security checkpoint at the side entrance of the embassy, but did not do damage inside the embassy itself. Footage showed that the door had been blown off its hinges and debris littered the ground and across the road. An Associated Press journalist saw a body in the street in front of an embassy side entrance.

Police swarmed the area and several ambulances were dispatched. An AP journalist one woman who appeared to be seriously injured being carried into an ambulance.

The police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government rules, said police had examined security cameras around the embassy and had identified two people who could have been the suicide bomber.

The phones were not being answered at the embassy. "The US Embassy would like to thank the Turkish Government, the media, and members of the public for their expressions of solidarity and outrage over the incident," it said in a statement.

The embassy building is heavily protected. It is near an area where several other embassies are located, including that of Germany and France. Police sealed off the area and journalists were being kept away.

There was no claim of responsibility, but Kurdish rebels and Islamic militants are active in Turkey. Kurdish rebels, who are fighting for autonomy in the Kurdish-dominated southeast, have dramatically stepped up attacks in Turkey over the last year.

As well, homegrown Islamic militants tied to al-Qaida have carried out suicide bombings in Istanbul, killing 58, in 2003. The targets were the British consulate, a British bank and two synagogues.

In 2008, an attack blamed on al-Qaida-affiliated militants outside the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul left three assailants and three policemen dead.

In the November 2003 attack on the British consulate , a suspected Islamic militant rammed an explosive-laden pickup truck into the main gate, killing British Consul-General, Roger Short, and his assistant, Lisa Hallworth.

Turkey has become a harsh critic of the regime in Syria, where a vicious civil war has left at least 60,000 people dead. The first of six Patriot missile batteries being deployed to Turkey to protect against attack from Syria was declared operational and placed under NATO command on Saturday and others were expected to be operational in the coming days.

New Parish Nurses Network Volunteers at Union Gospel Mission

PASCO, Wash. -- Starting in January of next year, Registered Nurses must demonstrate proof of having 531 practice hours in order to renew their license. The nurses who are retired, home with children or working few hours are needing to have a place to volunteer that will allow them to record up to 177 clinical hours per year. Without the clinical hours and continuing education (45 hours), the nurse will have their license rendered inactive.

Volunteering as a nurse is one method of meeting the practice hour requirement.

In the fall of 2012, Susan Campbell, an instructor at WSU Tri-Cities school of nursing began working with another a retired nurse volunteer, Jan Jacobson to organize a local chapter of the Faith Community Nurses.

This is a nationally recognized specialty within nursing. Faith Community Nurses volunteer in churches to provide health education, screening and coordination of services. In the early discussions of this group, they connected with the Union Gospel Mission and decided to incorporate the mission as a place for Faith Community Nurses to volunteer. Wednesday, January 23rd the network began volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission

"Volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission, that way the registered nurses can keep their practice hours, keep their license active and the nursing students get additional clinical practice hours in the community," said Campbell.

One homeless man was glad to see the nurses available, "Its not like I can just run down to the hospital, I don't have a regular doctor," he said after getting his blood pressure reading and help signed for a program to up to quit smoking.

Jan Jacobson is a volunteer nurse who retired four years ago after working in the field for 50 years. She said this is the perfect opportunity to earn clinical hours.

"You're serving a community that really needs and wants help. they're trying to get themselves straightened out," said Jacobson.

Campbell said their first day was a success. "Hydration for a sick baby, help with head lice for a child, sending a man to his physician who needed to be seen," she said.

This Wednesday the nurses teamed up with the Benton Franklin Health District to provide free flu shots, whooping cough vaccines and TB shots. Typically they assist the women and children from 9-11:30am and the men's shelter from 1-3 PM. They do everything from taking blood pressure to diabetes consulting to giving health information and advice to those who haven't seen a doctor in years.

"That someone would take their time to come down to east Pasco, hearing all the bad stuff and still be willing to look at our clients, it is impacting them positively," said Chariss Warner, a case manager for women's and children at the Mission.

Faith Community Nurses will be hosting a presentation by Dr. Deborah Patterson on Friday, Feb 8th. Dr. Patterson coordinates the Faith Community Nurses (aka Parish Nursing) in Oregon. She will be assisting us with developing a local chapter. We would like to let nurses know this option is available with benefits for their community, their church and keeping their license active.

Self-Improvement For Stress Management | www.laughteryoga2u.com

Stress is a part of life whether we like it or not. No matter how we try to get rid of it, it will always come back and haunt you every single day of your life. Stress can be expected as you go through your daily routine, or just come out into the open and surprise you.

Problems, big or small, can affect us emotionally, mentally and physically. Even if we keep smiling on the outside, stress usually troubles us from within. Leaving us in doubt, desperate, anxious, or even irritable if we let if get out of control. The best way to deal with stress is to not let it get a foot hold in your life. You should control it before it even begins to grow ? and the secret to that success depends on you.

Body self-improvement techniques

Taking care of your body is the initial step to self-improvement. We should be sensitive to what our body needs by knowing how stress affects our physical self to adapt to it. Here are some techniques that you can use to improve your body and getting stress out of your system.

1. Give your body a break. It is very important to know the limits of our body especially when it comes to dealing with stress. Some people would justify that the more our body is exposed to stress, the stronger we become ? so not true. Our body can only do so much and will deteriorate rapidly when we exceed our capacity. If you feel some aches and pains while working, then you better take some time off and relax before it turns to something serious

2. Relax and enjoy. To help your body relieve stress then you need to engage in some activities that will push it along the road to recovery. A massage is perfect for energizing your body while getting rid of those tight muscles that will eventually lead pain and limit your body flexibility. Pamper yourself by visiting a health at least once week; a few hours with professional hands can do wonders.

3. Exercise and sweat it out. Indulging in physical exercise is a great way to get rid of stress while keeping your body in top shape. Not many can allocate the time and effort for a physical exercise, but if you really want a stress free life then you better accommodate. Daily 1 hour exercise can do wonders to your cardiovascular functions and keep your heart in proper working order.

Self-improvement for a stress free life

The tips above borders on the physical side of releasing stress, but your mind is till vulnerable to its attacks. Physical exercise can provides an outlet for emotional problems like anxiety, fear and depression. But your mind is something else.

Before you can dispel any stress from your life, you need to improve your coping mechanism first, and it all starts in your mind. Even if we feel the physical and emotional backlash of the problems that we face, it will always start with how you think and how you devise ways in dealing with it.

Before you can apply the tips above, you have to condition your mind by focusing on the need to improve yourself in getting rid of stress.

Tornado & PostgreSQL & Python

I send request to the Tornado server. Handler looks like:

def myHandler (self, callback): string = self.get_arguments('string', None) query = 'SELECT * FROM table_name WHERE value LIKE \'%s%\'' with self.db.blocking connection as conn: cursor = conn.cursor() cursor.execute (query,[string]) response = cursor.fetchall() callback (response)

It doesn't work. But I try in the terminal: SELECT * FROM table_name WHERE value LIKE \'?%\'; and it works.

So what's wrong in this code?
